Late January marked the arrival of our new digital cameras.
The new scanner workstation in the Library became operational in this
month as well.
Unfortunately, February marked the death of the Computer Lab scanner,
so once again, we made adjustments to the grand plan underweigh.
First, the staff needed to become comfortable with this new tool.

Then, the students gradually learned to use the cameras, using a peer
instructional method.
The initial students in each group were guided in use of the camera
by an adult instructor.
The trained student then became the trainer for the next student in
line.
Trainee progressed to become trainer with each additional student.
The adult instructor stayed nearby to spot-check
quality of instruction and to provide prompts when needed.
Next, on to the great outdoors!
Students in our focus rooms gathered the equipment and headed outside to gather firsthand photos of local flora and fauna. They also took along their journal folders. Each folder had materials for both written observations and drawings. A small ruler gave students the option to make notes about dimensions.
