Explore It!

Meanwhile, students were writing about their experiences.
Trips to the Peggy Notebart Museum of Natural History and to the Terra Museum of American Art were providing a rich base of common experiences for the students.

Working with Mia Morgan from Urban Gateways , the students began to use written expression in response to their exploration.

I like trees because when it is hot you can
get under the four shade.  And I like the branches
because if I am getting chased by a dog it cannot get me.

My hair is like a smooth desk.  And my feet are like
the roots in the ground.  And my face is like an apple.  And my
arms are like branches hanging from a tree.  And my
feet are like a long branch.  And my eyes are like an apple
on a tree.

In January (2002), they gathered together to present their work to each other on stage.  For most, it was their first time on camera.  It was definately a new experience for the camerastaff!

Further writing went on during the project, including some submissions from students not included in the focus rooms. These journal pages were added to our resources by an excited Room 409.
